The United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland is a constitutional monarchy. It means that the sovereign reigns but does not rule.

The functions of the House of Commons are legislation and scrutiny of government activities.
The House of Commons is presided over by the Speaker. The Speaker is appointed by the Government.
The House of Lords comprises about 1,200 peers. It is presided by the Lord Chancellor. The House of Lords has no real power. It acts rather as an advisory council.
It's in the House of Commons that new bills are introduced and debated. If the majority of the members are in favour of a bill, it goes to the House of Lords to be debate. And finally a bill goes to the monarch to be signed. Only then it becomes law.
Parliament is responsible for British national policy. Local governments are responsible for organizing such services as education, police and many others.

ENGLISH PAINTERS
Thomas Gainsborough, one of the greatest representatives of the English school, was a portraitist and a landscape painter. His portraits are painted in warm tones. Blue and green are his favourite colours. One of the most famous works is the “Portrait of the Duchess of Beaufort”. He managed to create a true impression of the impressions. Gainsborough greatly influenced the English school of landscape masters. He was one of the first English artists to paint his native land (“Sunset”, “The Bridge” and others). His works contain much poetry and music.
Gainsborough’s paintings became regularly exhibited in London. “Eliza and Thomas Linl” and “Lady in Blue” are the most popular among his pictures. At 1770 artists creates a picture “The Blue Boy”, at which the landscape is matched with a boy in a suit of blue color.
It should be noted, that at works of Gainsborough the landscape plays greater role, and this feature differs him from the other portraitists. During the last years of Gainsborough’s life were created different sentimental paintings about farmers and children, landscapes and genre pictures.
John Constable, an English landscape painter, painted many well-known works (“A Cottage in a Cornfield”, “The Loch”). He began to take interest in landscape painting while he was at grammar school. His father did not favour art as a profession. As a boy Constable worked almost secretly, painting in the cottage of an amateur painter. He is the first landscape painter who considered that every painter should make his sketches directly from nature working in the open air. His technique and colouring are very close to the painting. He insisted that art should be based on observation of nature and feeling. He was the herald of romanticism. But the realistic qualities of his art are sensed very strongly.
Constable was a realist. He put into his landscape cattle, horses, the people working there. He put the smiling meadows, the sparkle of the sun on rain, or the stormy and uncertain clouds. The most notable works of Constable are "Flatford Mill", "The White Horse", "The Hay Wain", "Waterloo Bridge", "From Whitehall stairs" and others. In England Constable never received the recognition that he felt he was due. His influence upon foreign painting schools has been powerful. Constable may truly be considered the father of modern landscape painting.

The Geography and Climate of Ukraine
Ukraine is one of the largest countries in Eastern Europe. It covers an area of 603,700 square kilometers. Its territory stretches for 893 kilometres from the north to the south and for 1,316 kilometres from the east to the west. Ukraine borders on Russia, Belarus, Moldova, Czech Republic, Poland, Slovakia, Hungary and Romania. On the south it is washed by the Black Sea and the Sea of Azov. The major part of Ukraine is flat and only 5% (per cent) of the whole territory is mountainous.
The two mountainous areas in Ukraine are the Catpathians and the Crimean Mountains, but they are not high. The main rivers are the Dnieper, the Dniester, the Buh, the Donets and others.
The climate is mild and soft in the west and in the centre, warm and dry in the east and hot in the south. The flora of Ukraine is rich in a great variety of plants, which number up to 16, 000. The animal life is also unusual and specific.
The population of Ukraine is 47 million inhabitants. Many nationalities inhabit our country: Ukrainians, Russians, Jews, Poles, Belarusians, Moldovians, Bulgarians, Hungarians, Czechs, Greek, etc.

is the most important authority in

The House of Lords has no real power. It acts rather as an advisory council.

goes to the monarch to be signed. Only then it becomes law.
Parliament is responsible for British
national policy. Local governments are responsible for

Maxwell had not held a steady job in almost two years. Today was a big day, because he was going to a job interview that he felt good about. The secretary he had talked to on the phone sounded friendly and encouraging.
Maxwell was a typist. He had some work experience in typing. His fingers danced on the keyboard. However, his people skills were not nearly as good as his typing skills. Sometimes his mouth got in the way of his employment. At his last steady job, his boss had told him to start making coffee every morning. Maxwell laughed. “I’m not making coffee,” he said. “It’s not part of my job description.”
“Read the employee manual again,” his boss said. “Your job description is anything I say it is.”
“That’s a woman’s job,” said Maxwell. “Do it yourself.”
His boss was still yelling as Maxwell walked out of the building. He felt great about telling off the boss. A few days later, the reality of not having a job hit him. He had to pay the rent and utility bills, and he had to eat. And he understood he needs a job to get a salary.
He thought about apologizing and asking for his job back. But how would that look? Then again, who cares how it looks when you’re almost broke? After thinking about it for another week, he finally called his boss and apologized. His boss accepted his apology, but said that he had already hired a replacement.
Maxwell contacted a temporary job agency, which provided him enough occasional work to pay his bills. But none of the companies that he was sent to were hiring. So Maxwell was excited about finally getting an interview for a steady job.
He was disappointed when it took him 45 minutes to commute a new place of job.
The interview started 30 minutes late. Not bothering to apologize, the manager lit a cigarette and took a sip from his coffee cup. He leaned back in his chair and put his feet up on his desk. He asked Maxwell a lot of questions. Maxwell thought that each question was stupider than the preceding question. The final question was, “Where would you like to be 10 years from now?”
What does that have to do with typing? Maxwell wondered. Stupid questions from a rude man in a lousy neighborhood! Where would he like to be 10 years from now?
“Anywhere but this dump!” Maxwell said angrily, as he stood up and walked out.

Martin Smith is one of the new breed of British male nannies. “I love being around kids and nannying is very rewarding. The money isn’t great, but then I don’t do it for money. I like seeing kids happy and, if they are, it makes my job a whole lot easier”, laughs Martin. He claims today’s nannies are better equipped and more highly qualified, and that their image is changing rapidly. “Anyone with basic school qualifications can do the course to become a nanny, but personality is really more important.
